Having to have moved location because of the closure of the firehouse in Southampton being renovated into housing, the future of Abyssal was a complete uncertainty. The promoters Harley, Dave and Chris have worked tirelessly for the last year to bring us a bigger venue with a better line up and risk going to a larger venue. To see such a small promoter work so hard to keep the metal scene alive is really inspiring!

We promised a new photo gallery and here it comes – it’s been a couple of years since we did a festival gallery and there have been some great events this year, so let’s revisit the theme and see what your highlights are from festival season 2024? Outdoor or multi-venue city set-ups, on stage or off, crowd shots or your favourite pizza van – anything goes as long as the images are from this year. If you need some inspiration, you can view our 2022 version here. Usual guidelines apply, detailed below for any newcomers – everyone welcome!

Festival Gallery

– You may submit 1 or 2 images
– For each picture, please include the festival name and month taken, if it’s from a live set let us know the artist too
– Submissions close midnight on Monday 23rd September
– Breaking Glass is not a profit-making publication; we can’t pay for contributions nor do we charge for submissions as some sites do
– Everyone is welcome to join in; professional or hobbyist, camera or phone, film or digital photographer
– Copyright remains with the photographer; by submitting your photos you grant us permission to include them on the website and our social media with credit

Tour: VLURE, United by Music Tour, August 2023

VLURE, United By Music Tour, August 2023

For the third year The National Lottery has partnered with Music Venue Trust to help support the grassroots music sector by underwriting the full touring and production costs of the artists taking part in the United By Music Tour. This takes The National Lottery contribution to grassroots venues through the United By Music Tour to £1.5m, and the tireless work of Music Venue Trust continues to highlight and support independent venues across the country, and their communities.

And if you were to pick an artist to represent the importance and impact of live music right now, you couldn’t find a better subject than VLURE. The last few years have seen them grow into a band whose from the heart performances are intoxicating, momentous and life-affirming. The experience is the musical equivalent of Pulp Fiction’s adrenaline shot scene.  People talk about the songs that saved their lives – come and find yours here in their ever growing catalogue of perfectly produced future anthems, this year’s releases Cut It and This Fantasy paving the way for what’s next, a cover of Faithless’ God is a DJ slotting into the set like it was always meant to be there.

I don’t know that the extent of this can be captured in pictures but I’ve had the best time trying, and met some great people along the way. Couldn’t make it to Manchester and Belfast, but the rest are here. Don’t miss this band, they really are something special.

International Women’s Day, 8th March 2023

International Women’s Day is an long-established annual event, set up to:
– Celebrate women’s achievement
– Raise awareness about discrimination
– Take action to drive gender parity

I’m n0trixx, DIY female self-produced multimedia project. I have diagnosed dissociative identity disorder (DID), which means I have more than one personality in my body. I do everything starting from beats ending with cover art designs and video editing all by myself. The goal of my photography is to give my audience an enhanced feel of my music, bringing out the demons in n0trixx into a visual form.

Forgive me a little indulgence to include some text on this one. It was so sad to hear of Tina’s passing earlier this month. She loved photography and all that went with it – the joy of live music, meeting people, supporting new artists and not least her family – her passion for all of it was obvious. Tina sent me images for this and our music photography feature a few weeks ago; she was a big part of Breaking Glass and I’ll miss our conversations very much.
