Event News – The Levellers

The Levellers & special guests at Hove Park, 5th September 2026

It seems implausible that it’s 35 years since the release of The Levellers’ second album, Levelling the Land – the piece of work that probably most captures the essence and impact of the band. While One Way is undoubtedly its best known track, the album also includes other memorable singles in Far from Home and Fifteen Years (not originally on the tracklist but added to later pressings after its chart success).

Celebrating the anniversary, the band are playing an exclusive open-air show at Hove Park on Saturday 5th September 2026, bringing a folk-punk party on a huge scale to the city, hosted by Joy Concerts.

In more exciting news, supports for the event have been announced as edge-of-Britpop stalwarts Sleeper, ‘frantic Britpunk’ duo The Meffs, and some local talent in the shape of Brighton’s own Brakes, and from just along the sea in Hastings, and always a popular choice on the south coast, Kid Kapichi.

Having taken their name from the 17th-century political movement that advocated for equality, extended suffrage, and religious tolerance, The Levellers continue to act on their belief in social justice, and there will be an optional charity donation to Sussex Homeless upon ticket purchase. Speaking about the charity, the band say, “We’ve been working with Sussex Homeless for 5 years. It’s front line work, what they do is hardcore and we are really happy to support that. We’ve all been homeless back in the day, and we just used to squat, but you can’t do that anymore, that’s criminal now, so it’s an issue close to our hearts. Jim who runs it is all over it, we know the money is being used at the pointy end and we are very happy to be part of it.”
